  1. I have been listening to the podcast basically since episode 1, but this time I actually had to leave a comment… The whole “cowboy stripper scene” was simply beautiful! Can’t wait for the next episode to hear how the double date went! 😀

  2. Love the podcast and have been an avid listener… you all are the best to listen to!

But this episode actually made me cringe a little. I was really disappointed at Maverick’s complete dismissal of Roland’s death as feigning being upset. It seemed like they had respect and friendship and loyalty despite Roland’s advances. His line about him already thinking of killing him off solely because of his aggressive advances was disturbing. Then Maverick followed up soon after with way more aggressive advances to Aurora than Roland ever did to him – double standard much?

It really soured my opinion of Maverick and his player, as they were both favorites of mine. If it were an obvious character choice I’d dismiss it, but it was so out of nowhere that it just felt like player bias… even lazy role playing – he had a great opportunity to expand on a dynamic we don’t see often between a straight guy and a gay guy (one that doesn’t end in a gay bash anyway) and just decided to swipe any feelings about it, even minor ones, under the rug with a dismissive hand.

Still though, love how he was brought back, and glad to have him back. I just wish this phobic attitude wasn’t a part of it; even though it wasn’t particularly overt, the implications were disturbing and I wanted to point them out as food for thought.

    Thanks everyone!

    1. I am not sure what sections of the dynamic between Roland and Maverick make it into the podcast. Keep in mind there is also a lot of chat dialouge you guys don’t see. Rolands character on many occasions would joke about drugging Maverick and taking advantage of his unconscious form. Even for Maverick that is excessive. Also the two did not know each other for exceptionally long. I am not sure your reaction to implied date rape from a new co-worker in real life but I potrayed this professional criminal as pretty forgiving if I do say so myself. The fact that Roland was gay was not even a factor for my roleplaying.

      1. I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt. I don’t remember a drug-rape joke (in which case I totally understand the disdain from Maverick’s end; I wouldn’t want him around either). It’s unfortunate to hear it went that far when this could have been an interesting dynamic and in my opinion a missed opportunity. But in this case I can’t blame you or Maverick for the reaction.

Thanks for your response and glad we could discuss it. 🙂

    2. Oscar- I took Maverick’s reaction very differently. I thought it was his way of processing trauma. He had been through a horrible and nearly fatal experience only to come back and find his team not at home and to hear one of them was dead. This would be emotionally overwhelming to most people, and Maverick simply was not ready to deal with it. So instead he makes a joke of it and bluntly propositions someone he barely knows. And makes an incredible ‘entrance’ by being naked in the kitchen when they get back. He is reeling and acting out his shock, and desperately needing the team to be focused on him, but at the same time he is unable to be emotionally serious about it. I thought it was actually very sophisticated role playing.

That you you have to remember Maverick is not very smart :).

      1. Without getting too involved in the discussion here, I have to say that this is how I took his reactions/actions, too. Pure shock. To say he acted oddly over the chunk of in-game time following his rescue would be putting it mildly! And yes, this was also one of my favorite episodes! 🙂

  3. This is a warning to all who may listen to this post hence forth. Do not listen to this while at work or in a public environment. When the scene with Maverick and Aurora, arose, shall we say I just started laughing. I was in the midst of walking to class at that point and the fact that I had to sit to catch my breath had looks of bewilderment and concern shot my way (not a young student btw) so yeah this episode may not be safe for work even with headphones on.

  4. This podcast is the best. Glad to see Maverick back. As an aside, does anyone remember a few podcasts back when the party was either going or leaving the hide out, and they noticed one of the neighborhood ghouls caring a body thrown over the shoulder down a dark side street? I wondered if that was Maverick. This may come out in a later episode, but I was just curious. Anyhow, love the podcast, so you all keep on keepen on.
