Episode 018 – Religion in the Sixth World

For episode 18, Vox and Mr. Johnson are joined by a guest host. We cover the topic of the role of religion in Shadowrun; what religions exist in the sixth world, tips for playing a character with religious beliefs, and how religions might result in shadowruns. For this week’s critter corner, we explore the dark and mysterious Shedim.

  1. another home run !

I had been thinking of making a hybrid street sam with religious zealot influence 🙂 Now I have some good source material to base it off of 🙂

I did like the way Opti turned his hat around to get into character 🙂

    1. Thank you sir!

      Heh – so did I.

  2. Love the Podcast. You two do an outstanding job.
Opti was great (I listen to his podcast too)! Don’t be afraid to invite him back.

I have a suggestion for a show segment: “Character Corner”. A focused look at 1 character covering role play notes, motivation for shadow-running, build notes. I think this would been good more players looking for inspiration for their next character. And GM’s who want a shortcut to making rich NPC’s but don’t have the time to lovingly craft them the way the NPC’s do.

    1. Thanks so much! We will definitely not shy away from inviting Opti back! 🙂
Being such a lover of character creation/development, I love the Character Corner idea. Thanks for suggesting it!

    1. Thanks! We’re into games that aren’t all dark. 🙂 We’ll have to check that out!

  3. Aengus Óg is a member of the Celtic Pantheon the Tuatha Dé Danann, He is there love god.
strangely there version of heaven is Tír na nÓg… which I’m pretty sure is one of the elvish provinces.

Also pick a religion for the Wyld Hunt, its in germanic gallic gealic scandavian … you get the idea…

Awesome show keep up the good work

also how does the mystic adept work … I want to build a gun adept who makes his own gun focuses … could it work at all ?

    1. Nice, and thanks very much! As far as a gun focus works, it couldn’t be a weapon focus because the subject of the focus loses its power once it loses physical contact with the mage, and it’s the bullet you would want enchanted. But it could totally be one of the other types: spell, power, etc. If, however, you are able to *invent* a ranged weapon focus, I understand there’s a hefty provision covering that in Dunkelzahn’s will…

  4. I don’t have the words to express how absolutely impressed I was with this episode and with your podcast overall. ‘Religion in the Sixth World’ absolutely summed up everything that I love about the setting and gave me a huge burst of much needed GM Revitalization. Thank you so much for all of your great effort and deeper viewpoints into the setting!

    1. Thank you so much for the kind words! I’m thrilled to hear we’ve helped with the “GM Revitalization!” We all need one of those from time to time. 🙂

  5. “Johnny Appleseed, that would be the most worthless spirit of all time.” –Opti

Maybe that was how the forests of the Tir were grown in such a (relatively) short period of time…

  6. About Judaism (around 1:10:00) – Judaism would prevent you from using Magic on Saturday (“The Shabat”), However – there is a concept which loosely translates to “the saving of lives supersedes the Shabat”, or in other words, if the Shabat has already entered, but the Knight Errent goons and hell-hounds are closing in, you are to do what is needed to save lives (yours, your team etc.) and worry about the Shabat only when the danger has past.

(And a little nitpicking – Jewish week begins on Sunday, so regarding Mr. Johnson’s remark – “it’ll have to wait until Sunday”, not Monday…)

    🙂

  7. Hello Vox and Johnson,

just have listend yesterday 23. September 14 to this Episode.
I have to add something in defence to Christianism in the 6th world:

The French catholic Congregation has separated itself from the Roman Catholic church, once the Pope declared the Elfes and Dwarf as Demons. Sinc then the French catholic Church has choosen its own Pope and have, together with France, a very tolerate view of Metahumans, Magic user and sentinent critters.
For this only they are a “Ray of light” in the dark sixth world.

    Greetings Ilbis
